RSPS Account Security – How to Protect Your Private Server Account
Your RSPS account can hold hundreds of hours of progress, and sometimes real money in donations. Protect it with strong passwords, safe habits, and awareness of common scams.
Use a Strong, Unique Password #
Never reuse passwords from other sites. If your email or another site is breached, attackers will try those credentials on RSPS.
Best practices:
- Use a password manager (Bitwarden, 1Password, etc.) to generate and store unique passwords
- At least 12 characters, mixing letters, numbers, and symbols
- Avoid obvious words, dates, or personal info
Example: Instead of runescape123, use something like xK9#mP2$vL7@qR – unique to each server.
Don’t Fall for Phishing #
Phishing is when someone tricks you into giving your login details. Common RSPS phishing tactics:
- Fake login pages – Links in Discord or forums that look like the real server site but steal your password
- “Verify your account” – Messages claiming you need to log in to avoid a ban or restore access
- “Staff” impersonation – Fake staff DMs asking for your password or “to check your account”
How to protect yourself:
- Always type the URL yourself – Don’t click links from DMs or random messages. Go to the server’s official site directly.
- Check the URL – Phishing sites might use
rsps-scam.cominstead ofrsps-real.com. Look for typos or wrong domains. - Real staff never ask for your password – No legitimate server will request your password via DM or email.
Enable 2FA When Available #
Some RSPS support two-factor authentication (2FA). If enabled, logging in requires a code from your phone or app,so even if someone gets your password, they can’t access your account.
How to enable:
- Check the server’s website or Discord for 2FA setup
- Use an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy) rather than SMS when possible
- Store backup codes securely
Not all servers offer 2FA,but if yours does, turn it on.
Secure Your Email #
Your RSPS account is often tied to your email for password resets. If your email is compromised, attackers can reset your RSPS password and take over.
Protect your email:
- Use a strong, unique password
- Enable 2FA on your email provider
- Avoid using the same email for RSPS and high-value accounts (banking, etc.) if you’re concerned about leaks
Avoid Suspicious Downloads #
Only download clients from official sources. Third-party sites or random Discord links may contain malware that steals your credentials or installs keyloggers.
Safe downloads:
- Official server website
- Official server Discord (pinned or verified links)
- Our server reviews link to official sites
Avoid:
- “Free GP” or “cheat” tools
- Unverified links from strangers
- Sites that look like the real server but have a different URL
What to Do If Your Account Is Compromised #
- Change your password immediately – Use the server’s password reset if you’re locked out.
- Contact server staff – Explain the situation. Some servers can restore items or ban the attacker.
- Change passwords on other sites – If you reused the password, update it everywhere.
- Check your email – Ensure no one has added a recovery email or changed settings.
Account security is mostly about habits: strong passwords, no phishing, and downloads only from trusted sources. For more on avoiding bad servers, see our 5 red flags guide.
